Default letting the car idle, hearing a light knock after 5 mins

like the title says i started hearing a light knock after a few minutes today, oil pressure is good according to the gauge, past few oil changes oil has been very black, i know the oil level is about a 1/2 qt low from the full mark, due for an oil change soon, but i am thinking to throw that 1qt gunk engine flush in and run it for 5 mins then do the oil change?
what are your experiences with this?
is this a good idea?
what are pros and cons to this? thanks!

i assume it's a half a quart low because it's burning oil? it this is the case, you're on a downhill slope my friend. you can do what you want, but short of replacing rings and doing some engine work, it's gonna get worse.

not really i think its the vaccum valve near the throttle body that consumes gas, i never installed a catch can so i think i have the ls1 cancer as far as using oil, since it always used about half a qt since i got it, approx every 3k or 3500 it will lose about that amount.

^ Yeah that. I thought he may have been talking about the PCV valve.
But I can't make sense of the "consumes gas" part, unless he's reefering to it indirectly, suggesting it's hurting gas mileage?

i would not recommend using any flush or cleaners in the motor oil. what kind of oil and oil filter are you using? smell oil for any signs of gas. how many miles on the motor?

sorry guys had a brain fart while trying to do several things at once, i thought the stock pcv setup consumes oil, thats why people install catch cans
i checked the oil level this morning, and topped it of to below the full mark and it took 1.25 qts to get there, so it seems i was on the low side
always used mobil 1 10 40 and mobil filter, had bad luck with pressre with fram filters
did drive the car yet so will let u know tonight

Yes it can, if your engine has enough ring wear to where you're getting blow-by, which pressurizes your crankcase more and causes it to vent out oil fumes. Then a catch can could help by acting as a drop-off point before the PCV system sucks in the oil fumes.
