1996 V6 31000 miles, very happy... BUT on going over some bumps am hearing a kind of hollow sounding knocking noise from the drivers side rear. As if there is a loose exhaust mounting, which as far as I can tell is not the problem it all seems secure. The sound sometimes almost has an echo as if something is swaying ie loudish knock then a secondary quieter one. Also noticed that when I got out of the car I heard it, once.. quietly, I then bounced the back end up and down and it wouldnt cause the sound
headlining is falling in the two recess areas over the seats any one got an easy fix... I dont mind “adding‘ something to the inner roof panels as long as it looks neat and holds it up, got pins in there at the mo but they keep slipping out. Otherwise what a brilliant car, just had an LPG system fitted to the engine so now I am getting equiv oif 50 mpg. Easy to get over here in the UK.

Sounds like a possible U joint issue.

 

Mmm not so sure about U-joint, there is absolutly no connection between the sound and the drivetrain, there is no clunking or grating or any connection with shifting, everything else is sweet just this firm short rattle and only over certain types of bumps as well. Anyone know any obvvious test I can do to rule things out before I start paying someone else to do it.

Have you tried checking your shocks/springs?

 

May want to check the spare tire and jack that are mounted by the rear right fender under a plastic cover.

 

i have that same thing going on in my front driver side and steering or handling performance is not effected at all
