Key Question
I had trouble about a year ago with the car not starting. From reading and searching on here, I figured out that the key and/or the key switch was bad. So, I went and got a new one but got lazy. Instead of actually installing it, I just unpluged thew old one and plugged in the new one, stuck the new key into the new switch, and tucked it in up under the dash. Works great! Well, I went to get a new key made for the old switch so I would have a spare, but I just got a regular key made, without the resistor. Because the key switch that I use isnt reading the resistor anyway. But now Ive been through three keys and cant get any of them to work. I dont understand why if the switch isnt reading the resistor, why it would need to even have the resistor in it? Any ideas?
you have two parts to the vats system. one in the columm and one in the computer, im thinking one key was keeping one happy and the other key is keeping the other happy. find out the ohms on the old key and get a blank with the same. number 25 and 26 on the list 4th Gen LT1 F-Body Tech Aids
I'm sorry, I should have explained it better. I had a new key made for the old tumbler, without the resistor. The problem is that i can't even get the tumbler to move. It may start the car, if I could get it to move. I'm thinking that the resistor wouldn't have anything to do with that, right? It acts like it's cut wrong. But like I say, I've had three cut now.
