The bodies are not the same as someone earlier stated. I own a 94z and a 99 and an 02 Firebird. None of the Fenders are the same. Inside lips are all different. Chevrolet changed the fender design in 97 along with the dash and door.panels as Massey already mentioned. Sorry Craby, but your guessing again. Deja vu?

Contrary to what people here are saying, the bodies are not the same. GM changed the shape of the Fenders in 97. And the dash cluster will not swap because everything is computer controlled in the 97. Digital spedo and trip, vs manual dials is only the beginning of why they don't swap. Heating unit is different as well.

so long as your using a 97 interior then its doable. 98 up the gage cluster will not work.

I believe the dash in 97 is digital and will work for 97-02, and not before 97.

I actually prefer my 94 interior to my 99. Both have leather, however, I feel the 99 is to smooth and conservative. GM actually went back to old design ideas with the 97-02 interior, such the same square vents as older models from the 70s and 80s as well as that square dash pad. They should have kept the sportier 93-96 interior imo. It was to European for GMs taste from what ive read. But then why did they bring back their design leader after he just returned from Lexus along with his European ideas? What did they think would happen?

the 98-02 gage cluster is controled by the pcm and will not work on a 97 and earlier.

Mezzy, the bodies are not chaged from 93-97 and 98-02 but the fenders and front sheet metal/plastic did get a change on both the Camaro and FB. This was to clear the way for the LS1 engines. There are no other changes to the Camaro body other than what is bolted on. I cant say the same for the FB I dont know if their qtr panels changed or not.

I know you can swap the front sheet metal/plastic from a 2000 and put it on a 96. You can also make the swap with the interior but that is not going to be easy in the cluster department. All the holes are in the same locations and everything will bolt up. The heater boxes changed in 97 along with the dash. At least on the Camaro the door panels look identical but are not on the 93-96 and 97-02, I cant say for sure on the birds. The seats are different but interchangable between the years and between the FB/Camaro as well.

Hope this helps with any confusion.

Massey

yus, i will post a LOT of pics of the process, maybe link a folder for you guys. there arnt any and i plan on taking hundreds of photos. dont expect the process to start till next month do to the budget constraints set by my pathetic paycheck and no tips. this week i will have a different writeup i am going to try. first off i have never painted a car before in my life. i bought the tools and will be doing a single stage on one of my many bmw's. i have NO experience at all. what could go wrong.... but ill share it all with you guys. also i am redoing the stock seats! again no experience. and this looks terrifying. nvtl i will try it and post many many pics of my mistakes till its done right. i am going to do half grey suede and black leather using the original pattern. then im going to bend the stock bolsters in quite a bit and add a little padding. hopefully it turns out well. videos help. we will see how this all goes and hope i start a massive following of people who want to do there own seats since options suck and are limited.... but the whole interior for a 9
trans am is how its going to be i think to keep it as close to my car as possible as far as wiring and year to year changes go. stay tuned wish me luck.

by the way thanks Craby for the link it should be a massive help. do you live on this forum? the problem is the 94 interior make my car feel very big.... my 97 used to feel kinda small like i was in controll of the whole scene. sitting in the car not on it i guess? not sure why but the 94 feels massive and like im standing in the car looking down on the dash... almost ruins the whole car. it must be changed..........

That's weird, I have a 94 and a 99 Z, and my situation is the opposite. My 94 seats sit so low, I am below the steering wheel yet my 99 feels like I'm above the dash
