Default Improving gas mileage through aerodynamic improvements

So i'm buying a '99 V-6 5 speed Camaro from my best friend next month. I don't do a lot of driving, but when i do its 600-700 miles in a weekend to and from school. With gas reaching $5 a gallon every MPG counts. I read about the aero civic (yes i know its a civic but bear with me).

The theory is sound on creating a smooth uniform flow around the vehicle. Basically I was hoping to improve on the mileage (which isn't bad at 27ish highway) of the car to somewhere over 30 MPG at 70-75 MPH. I'm looking to the forum as to ideas on where to start and if anyone has done anything like this in the past.

Otherwise I'll be starting to modify blindly and updating as I go. My current plans include blocking up part of the front "grille"(and seeing how it affects cooling), and adding removable under body panels (like the ones used on a lot of German cars)

I'm open to all opinions, but I'd rather you didn't hate on my idea unless you can put experience/sound theory behind it. But, all things considered I'm flying blindly and looking for any advice on how to go about achieving my goal.

i think it will be difficult to get any real difference in MPG. The F body has a drag coefficent of .30, the Prius has a .25 which is the most aerodynamic consumer car iirc. You are already pretty aerodynamic, I think the money would be better spent on tune up parts (spark plugs, air filter, fuel filter) and an exhaust. The exhaust will help in the MPG department as it will give you a bit more power, making it easier for your car to move.

The Camaro looks like a dart. Can't improve on that. That Civic is ugly, LOL.

You could lower the car a bit. That should help as long as you don't have to drive on rough roads.

Best bang for the buck is a good cold air intake, headers with a feel flow exhaust some 215/60/r16 michelin energy and a tune from PCMforless. You should be able to hit 32-33 if you keep in under 70 MPH. Better if you hypermile.

I can hit 30-31 highway now with larger tires in the back and stock tune going 75 ish no hypermiling.

Thanks for the specifics, this is the kind of stuff I was really looking for, the aero improvements are really just me being an engineer and over thinking things lol. Do you have any specific parts you recommend/have used?

Drafting works big time. Mythbusters did semi truck drafting and showed great great results.

Pacesetter mid length headers, Magnaflow high flow cat, Magnaflow catback, SLP CAI

That is my thought too, but i'm always up for a challenge. That civic works well and it shows in how god awful looking it is. But,wouldn't catch me dead in it regardless of the mpg it gets.
