absolutely. u will need new springs at the very least, and probably a new set of rods.

other good things to have would be a new oild pump and timing chain. u can reuse stock retainers and locks, but i would (and did) get a kit with all that stuff new

Specter, if you're replacing your old spring when you get a new cam(which you should always do so you don't risk floating a valve from a spring that's too weak) if you take off the heads you don't have to worry about dropping a valve into the cylinder, and you don't have to worry about cranking the motor around to TDC at each cylinder to keep the valves up, that's just my $0.02. Plus, you want the flow of your heads to be matched to your cam as closely as possible so they compliment each other and you get the best HP/TQ curves.

how about this: if u have the cash to do it, definitly do heads with the cam. becauseyoure right, upgrading the valvetrain is easier out of the engine bay. but otherwise its not worth saving up for so long because there are pretty easy ways around having to remove the heads like the TDC method. thats what I intend to use when i finish up my valvetrain, and there shouldnt be any risk of dropping a valve, if the piston isnt high enough i will never get the spring to compress enough to get the locks out, so i would just have to recrank the motor a little
