hp questions
ok i need advise
i know a little about cars
a LITTLE not much
and i was wanting to know
my goal is a 300hp 93 lt1 z28
im going to the dyno soon to find out what im running and going from there
i haven't done anything to the car but here are the known mods
flowmasters, k&n drop in filter with a home done airbox mod, new performace computer.
but heres the big x factor the motor is basically BRAND NEW it was rebuilt by people who specialize in american v8's and i know it was mildly modified but i don't know what all was done. all i know is EVERYTHING is new andit has performance partsandit only has2000 miles on it.
what should i be running now?
what would it take to get to 300?

RE: hp questions
uhhhhh find out what X is, and we'll talk.idk what the stock hp is for your car, but imagine it about stock, or slightly more. This is just my opinion, but a trouble a lot of people seem to have is over thinking their mods, and their car isn't nearly as fast as they think. I like to be pleasantly suprised rather then bummed myself Good luck

RE: hp questions
First off...you're really not in the right section here, but I'll take care of that in a minute...
As far as power goes, are we talking 300 HP at the wheels or 300 HP at the crank? 300 Crank HP is easily attainable with a CAI and a full exhaust. You'll probably be over 300 crank HP with the headers on it. If you're looking for 300 RWHP you're going to have to start digging a little deeper. You'll need all the basic bolt ons, probably some 1.6:1 roller rockers. That may push you over the 300 RWHP mark. If not you're going to have to go for internals, but a mild cam would do it easy. Remember, you have to do all the bolt-ons first so you can actually get a good gain out of any internals that you do.

RE: hp questions
if you know the company that put this motor together, call them and ask them what was done to it and what supposed performance parts they put in it. find out exactly what was done to the motor and we can give you better guesses. and slvr can probably help me here but aren't lt1's about 235 to the wheels in stock form?

RE: hp questions
Give or take, yes.
The highest stock dyno lt1 I've seen was 249 rwhp. That's an extremely respectable number.
With a 'refurbished' engine like you're saying, plus the mods you know of, you'll probably be seeing about 245 rwhp. Maybe more.

RE: hp questions
A good intake, headers, exhaust, and head/cam package will get you up there and close to your goal depending on how mild or wild your cam is.

RE: hp questions
To get 300RWHP you're not even going to need different heads, but you can make better power with a more streetable cam if you swap the heads too. There's a lot of "if you do this, then you can do this...but..." sort of things when you're not reaching for the sky in HP. In the least you need to start with full bolt-ons, so a good aftermarket CAI (Moroso or K&N) and full exhaust (headers, Y-pipe, cat back). That should eat up enough of your money to start things off.
