Hose popped off while driving, car now sounds like a helicoptor
[solved - thanks]
So, I was on my way to work yesterday morning and while accelerating I heard a popping noise, and all of a sudden my car went from a nice deep rumble to sounding like an apache helicopter being cross bred with a lawnmower. I pulled over and parked my Camaro (95 lt1 6 speed) and checked the engine. The only thing I found was 1 hose that is not currently connected to anything (it is about as thick as a typical coaxal tv cable, if that helps identify it). I assume it popped off due to pressure, but I'm not the most mechanically inclined. I just assume, if a hose isn't connected, it needs to be put back :P. I checked over at shbox exploded views, but I couldn't find a diagram of this particular area. The dislocated hose is on the right side of the motor (looking at the car from the front), near the bottom, located right behind the wheel well. I wasn't able to lift my car up yet to check how hard it would be to reattach it yet (was in a suit on myway to work). I was just hoping someone a bit more mechanically inclined might have an idea as to what may have happened and how easy it would be to reattach once the car is lifted some. Even just a picture would help lol. Thanks |
Is the noise coming from the hose? Because it sound to me like a air tube rusted out.

picture would help a great deal. could be hvac hose. http://shbox.com/1/vac_check_valve.jpg

If I manage to snag a better camera later I'll snap a pic.
It is located near the pcv valve, but I can't be more exact without a better view |

pcv valve is on the driver side. lol, ok when i seen right side i skipped the from the front. you have a vacuum to vent for the opti, the egr vacuum and the brake boost hose.

only thing i can think of there is the evap line, its hard plastic though.
|
I don't see an open evap line making the engine sound like an apache helicopter/lawnmower though.
Unless what hose he's seeing is just a coincidence and unrelated. |

There are a few vacuum lines in that area. I am guessing that it is the opti spark vent/vacuum line since it is routed in that direction and I think the only soft line in the area. Most of the other lines are hard lines (the vacuum line for the solenoid for the AIR pump). EGR heads towards the back of the motor to the EGR valve and a brake booster line you would absolutely know was missing (you would have to stand on the brakes to stop and the car may not idle at all)!
I have attached a few pictures of mine if you want to point out the area and we can try to help better narrow it down. Attachment 14739 Attachment 14740 Attachment 14741 |
I may have misread the post also.
The only other things I see around the wheel-well and brake booster that resembles what you described is a cruise control cable and a feed line for the windshield washer nozzles but neither would cause a running condition. |
