Lightbulb Horn Replacement Tips & GM Splash Shield!

This should be stickied...

Horn splash shields -- I am ordering them, I have had a lot of horn issues over the years!

There is a service bulletin for one of the Chevrolet trucks that gave a part number for a horn splash shield (GM 15071417). The idea is to keep water from getting into the horn where it causes corrosion and eventual failure.

SS #670 Assorted hacks

As it turns out, the OEM horns are made by Fiamm and are cheaply available from many auto parts store. The horn itself is identical but you do need to remove and reuse the old weatherpack connector adapter. The stock fans are rated at 125 dB. There's also a louder version called the "Freeway Blaster Horn" which is rated at 130 dB, which is 5 dB higher than OEM. Here are the various part numbers.

Fiamm 72012 72002
Fiamm Freeway 72112 72102 <-- the ones worth getting!

Installed the Freeway Blaster Horns on my RS -- sounds great and a bit louder. I cut some of circular round of the connectors to fit on the terminals of the aftermarket style horn connectors. Works fine, just doesn't safety latch like the OEM horns do. The horn splash shields are ordered and on their way...

Note that two splash shields are required, one for each horn note. -- they just slip over the horn ends -- easy install -- but they must be the stock horn size end.

When I pulled out my old horns, water poured out of one of them! So these are a great idea...
