Default hood question

I'll probably get laughed at for asking this. The two fake scoops on my hood, is there a way to open them up? They look like inserts. I've been wondering about them, is it just a styling thing that chevy did? I thought maybe someone made a differant insert to go in their place. Just curious.

They're just there for style. I've looked into it before, the only thing they would be useful for is extra ventilation into the engine bay. That would be nice, but then I thought to myself: "Self, how are you going to keep the rain/snow out" and I stopped trying to think of how opening them up would be useful.

I didn't think of that. I guess I'll stick to my plans for a cowl hood. Still, I can't help but be curious.

I like them too, but the problem is water. I live in Oregon, and I didn't think about the whole water problem until slvr brought it up. One thing is for sure, this hood has to change or go. I don't really like it. I'm going to order some vinyl for it real soon, maybe some stripes will give me a better look.

Yeah... I dont think the bottom ram air idea is so good around here. I do however plan on getting that bigger style SS hood or just a regular hood.
