Default Honest Opinions Please

i need help in deciding what i want to do as a project, or at least some opinions. my first idea was to rebuild the 96 z28 that i have now. entire drivetrain, suspension, chassis, styling, interior, etc. the one thing is though that this car runs just fine and i love it how it is now. my other idea was to do the same mods, but buy an ls1 camaro with a blown motor or body damage or whatever, and a 6sp. my dad has always been into camaros since he was a kid too, and we want to do a father/son build together. so im not sure what to do. ive heard the ls1 block is lighter and stronger than the lt1, and my lt1 is an auto and i want a 6sp. the thing about it is i dont want to do any swaps (lt1 to ls1, auto to man, etc). all in all, i just want to hear what some people have to say, and what you guys would do if you were in my shoes. all the ideas are basically mine, but my old man wants to do the build with me.

I wouldn't mess with your 96 Z. You like how it drives now, and there is no need for major repaiur work so leave it as is. If you can find a LS1/6spd with some problems and can get it for cheap, it probably would be a cool project.

yeah im thinking about the ls1 idea more and more. its just tough for me to decide, like when i got my license, my Z was my first car and its been my dream car and i still have and love it so i keep thinking it would be cool to have a fully built f-body that just happens to be my first car. but on the other hand, its perfectly fine the way it is now.

and i know hawks third gen has a salvage car section but those cars are for part outs. i should ask them if they sell those cars in full. the reason i would buy a salvage ls1 camaro or trans am even is bc we are going to completely rip it apart anyway and build it from the ground up, so it doesnt matter really if it has problems. any other sites that sell salvage f-bodys?

craigslist: los angeles classifieds for jobs, apartments, personals, for sale, services, community, and events

also, you can transport any car within the lower 48 for about $500 or less, you just need to shop transport companies

what are you using as a purchase budget?

honestly, its whatever the budget takes to make it perfect to what we want. when we get a car, we're not going to rush and drain every penny we have to finish it asap. we want to take our time, enjoy the build, and like i said make it perfect to what we want. we are in no rush, so no set budget (:

I must not have been clear when i asked

"what are you using as a purchase budget? "

Perhaps I should have asked; what is your budget for the initial purchase of the vehicle?

lol oops, sorry, misunderstood the question hmm, since im looking for either a wrecked car or blown motor or trans, maybe $3000 at the most. i deff want it to be a ls1 m6, nothing else. i know if its auto or whatever, you could do a swap, but we dont want to do that. we want the car to already be setup for all that.
