Help Me! I'm not as sexy without my Maro...
My car just took a dump, a 1999 Camaro V6. I was driving it, parked for like five minutes, then it would start and immediately die- if it actually started. Yes, my check engine light was on, but I have come to the conclusion that this is a Camaro condition, as my 85 and 94 had the errant light every now and then. We replaced the ignition coils, as two of them had already gone bad and seemed to be similar. Now, it won't run at all andwe ran the codes and got P1514, P1516 and P1404. Even though AutoZone does diagnostics, they told me to take it to a garage because they couldn't guarntee me that a new mass air flow sensor was the problem. Okay, car guys, I need you!
Ok if your not willing to take the car into the shop and have them diagnose and repaire your car then your next option would be to buy a code book for the sensors and go by what Autozone told you what # sensors are bad and do the repairs yourself. You can also buy the code book from the Autozone you had diagnose the car the first time. I did that for my 93 v6 camaro and saved myself a lot of money in labor.
The P1514 code relates to the MAF, but the car can run without the MAF, unplug the MAF & see if it starts, if it still does not start the MAF is not to blame. The P1516 code refers to Throttle Position Sensor, it may or may not prevent starting depending on how it is broken. The P1404 is saying that the EGR is stuck open, this will allow too much exhaust into the intake, and may affect starting. The 1414 & 1516 codes are related and they may have a common trouble.
How long have you been driving the car with all of these problems.

It actually broke down last Monday. It hadn't been acting-up or anything. It just wouldn't start. My husband tried to drive it home by revving the crap out of it, but we ended up on the trailer anyway. We then replaced the three coil packs and it started and ran (although it didn't sound completely right). We drove it a couple miles, parked and it wouldn't and hasn't started again. Where is the MAF sensor? We may have already unplugged it, but I don't have a schematic to know what's what. I hate this computerized crap- loving my 78 Vette because of that! If I break down in it, I can fix it, no problem. Thanksfor the help and I appreciate any additional input.
Thats alot of codes. Try spraying a good amount of starter fluid into the TB and intake. Then try to start the car. If it starts Its most likely air and fuel related. And you can start replacing parts. If it doesnt its more likley to be spark bassed and you can head down that path. The MAF is the box thing that has a plug in on the intake before the manifold. Also add some sea foam to your gas tank a hole can if its over half full. If the car does start with the starter spray and mind you it might take a few times it could also be the fuel pump not a fun job in that car.
