Default Help! Looking into buying a 4th gen

Hello Camaro Forums! Im currently looking at a 4th gen for sale.
Heres the craigslist ad.
98 Camaro
Its a 98, v6, manual trans, 100k on it. Seller is asking $4000 (seems high)
Clear coat is chipping but i know thats a normal problem with the 4th gens.
Seller claims to be the 2nd owner, owning it for 15yrs. And has receipts to prove the work. Good deal or no?

yup I got 99 base last year for $2000.00 I had to put about $800.00 in it had 87.000 new AC ,if its in great shape an not leaking an working ac 2500.00 to 2800.00 I would say ,mine has ran great after doing some front end work an patching a few holes under the car,but check it good for leaks ,an make sure the coolent is orange or green an good these have gasket issues too so check the engine with mag glass ,if they have done gaskets mabey 3k at most tops, looks like he does not take care of his [paint though under the hood looks clean ,let it sit an run for like 20 minutes after you take it for 15 to 20 minute drive ,bring a jack an check under the car too he is asking way to much for the vette , look around best time to buy is the fall in NY if you wait you could find z28 for 4k ,last fall there was 3 of them in NY all black but had 50 to 60k were all priced from 4500.00 to 5k for a z28 so actually you can do better ,does not say anything about AC either, its a bad time to buy wait till mid summer or later unless you can find one of the deals I talk about I had also seen sweet 2000 red ss with 92000 miles for 4200.00 I was thinking 1 k more I could have had an ss ,just stay on it couse A car can be there one day a gone the next, for me both my cars had great paint, a lot of the time its the owner my purple 95 ss clone has like 15 coats of wax ,I have not had to wash it in 2 years ,so the chiping thing has to do with how much they sit in the sun an how they take care of them

Okay. So I found another one for sale in my city. This one is a z28, much better find imo.
98 camaro z28 ss
I see this guy driving around almost everyday. As far as i know, he has this one & 2 other 4th gens and 1 or 2 3rd gens.
Only thing im not sure of on this one is if its a good deal or not because of the aftermarket cam & other parts.

actually the fist one is listed at 3500. 45 is good for ls1 camaro. i would look it over close, its got mods so i would assume its raced as well so look for signs of being beat. lose rear end, great front tires and bald back,,, lol.

Yeah ive seen the price for that first one drop from 4k, to 39, now its at 35. All within the past 2wks. For the 2nd one, i know all the 4th gens he owns have the same or similar mods to them. As far as i know, theyre only used as summer DD's.

Not sure on the mileage. All he's told me was that the car was bought from PA & brought up here to Western NY. No rust or rot. Hoping to meet him this week for more info.

So i checked out the green 4th gen i first posted about. It was a nice, clean 4th gen from florida. (Explaining the clear coat issue) It drove nice! Engine ran & sounded strong! Everything worked great! (It even had the manual crank windows!) I ended up turning it down. He lowered the price down to $2900 for me, but he wasnt fooling me with the check engine light covered with electrical tape.

Wow! That's evil! Good catch even though SES/check engine may b something simple like an improperly attached gas cap, that degree of sneakiness warrants running away fast!

Is that a real SS? Someone took off the factory SS rear spoiler and installed a work bench? Hood fit seems a little Sketchy also.
