Correct, the ignition issues only relate to the LT1. 1997 also introduced a new interior, and 1998+ had better designed intakes and no angled throttle body. IIRC there was an exhaust manifold change in the 2000's that was beneficial as well. Basically, newer is better despite the car being pretty much unchanged from 96-02
