HELP!!!! I need it quick
The Car: 95 Camaro 3.4L SFI V6, 165,000 miles
Mods: Custom CAI, Relocated IAT Sensor, Throttle Body Heater hoses mod.
The Problem: I revved my engine to about 5000 rpm taking off the line and this is what happened: Engine bogged down, then stuttered, then RPMs dropped to about 400, stuttered some more, then the RPMs shot up to 3500.
I killed the car, then started it immediately and there was no problem. Drives fine, launches fine (not as high, like 4000 RPM). I have never had this problem before.
Solutions/troubleshooting tried: Checked to see if spark plug wires were arcing. Nothing. Checked oil for creaminess. Nothing. Didn't even throw a code.
Possible ideas as to the problem: Bent rods? I honestly don't know.
PLEASE HELP ME!! I am planning to go to Death Valley and I DO NOT want my car to die. Thank you.

Maybe you just hit the rev limiter or floated the valves.
If it ran fine after you restarted it it certainly isn't a bent rod, that would be a terminal disease lol.
Sounds to me like you over revved it,were you looking at the tach or just guessing it was about 5K rpm?

Is your gas tank running way low? Not that anybody ever does that!
Your rocket launch could have sloshed the gas back and the pump momentarily sucked air instead...maybe...possibly...could be.

Sounds to me like there might be a problem with either your fuel or vacuum systems. Check all your vacuum hoses and fuel lines.
I had some rev problems not too long ago and they were happening because the vent-port on my EVAP system was plugged. I don't know if it's the same on the 3.4L as on the 3.8L, though. Check and see if you have a part that looks like this one under the hood:
http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/moreinfo.php?pk=373012
If you do, the two side ports should be connected to vac hoses (one to the TB and one goes all the way back to the EVAP canister above the fuel tank). The third should be open to the atmosphere.
This system brings evaporated fuel from the fuel tank and throws it into the TB, but in order to keep it from getting too rich or lean, it needs that open port to allow clean air in. When mine was plugged, the car had a loping idle and if I revved too high it would completely choke and lose power. If there's something really close to that vent, it might have gotten sucked in or something. Unplugging that vent was the cheapest fix I ever did on my car, LOL!
