Question Help!!!!!!

i hope this isnt a repeat! I Have a 98 Camaro V6 3.8L with a brand new engine, spark plugs/wires, and rad. I have gone through 2 PCMs due to heavy rain. I know its located under the windshield but shouldn't there be something to prevent this from happening every time it rains? And also, my car has been making a grinding noise when I was trying to crank it...is that the starter or something else? I really don't want to get rid of this car, but I feel like its falling apart...again. Thanks for the help!

p.s. it sounds like it wants to turn over but doesn't complete the cycle

You should be able to spray water on the PCM and not damage it. You have to remember just because the PCM is failing during the rain does not mean the problem is with the PCM. It is a lot more likely the PCM is getting fried by item that is failing during the rain. A bad wiring harness that shorts or a something that is causing a voltage spike. Bad alternator or any type of capacitor comes to mind.

The grind is most likely a starter to flywheel alignment issue fixed with a small shim. If it has been going on for awhile the flywheel could be shot.

Did you just buy the car or are both these issue on going? If you just bought the car and the motor was installed by some that did not know or care what he was doing the problems can be 10X harder to find. Finding known common wear issues is one thing. Trying to figure out what dumb mistake a clueless person did is a whole other level of trouble shooting.

Thank you so much...last time the dealership took the new pcm out and about an inch of water drained out of it. Ialso had a feeling that it was the starter making that awful noise. I just dont know if I should sink anymore $$ into this car.

Turns out the re-man pcm doesnt have a seal on it to keep water out. Had to get an OEM from the dealership
