Default Headliner replacement with ABS only? No cloth cover?

2000 Camaro, V6
I love to drive in the rain with the t-tops off, needless to say, the headliner cloth is coming off.

I first thought to re-cover it with pleather for better water resistance, but realizing that the backing is fiberboard, I wondered...
Can I just replace it with a new, UNCOVERED ABS Plastic headliner, and just NOT COVER it?
Thanks for any input regarding any downsides to this.

it lasted 20 years, new ones are on plastic, at least one I ordered was, so should outlast the cardboard ones.

Np prob craby,
I originally tried to post this on the Ask GM part, that's probably why it was placed with the moderator.
Now I just hope to get some advice.
Thanks for the help

well yes you can just put the plastic headliner in without the covering if you wish. stock interior has them just click material and it will show a minus 20sum dollars.
