Default Which headers for a 3.8 v6?

I'm looking into getting a whole new exhaust. The one on it came with the car when I got it a few years back. It's a Magnaflow. I love it but it's got a few leaks here and there. So I figured replace the whole thing. Then I figured if I'm going to do that why not go ahead and get headers? Some say it might be dumb on a v6 but hey, I like it.

I found these 2 but not sure which one would be best.

I'm assuming there aren't long tube headers made for a v6 because I couldn't find any.

Go with the ceramic coated (second link) one's if you can swing it. Will last much longer than straight up painted ones. Not that the painted ones are bad...I have them...but if I were to do it again, ceramic coated or even stainless steel if I could find them would be the way.

I don't think anyone makes LT for them. I know their used to be a company, but I can't remember the name.

How much of an upgrade would those be compared to stock? better sound and performance? as much as i love my car i just think some stuff is a waste on a v6. now v8 would be a different story.

will it be noticeably different for the price? or a huge upgrade?

IMHO, headers are one of the best upgrades for any vehicle. But it really boils down to this. One, you're already in there messing with the exhaust, might as well do it all. And two, do it if you plan on keeping the car for a while.

As far as sound, you'll have to go to youtube for that. Never heard the V6 with headers in person before.

pacesetters are the most common choice, obx on eBay makes a stain steel knock of the pacesetters for $300.

camaro obx 3.8 | eBay

clear image automitve and rksport use to make really nice headers for the V6, but no longer do, so youll have to find those used.

and FFF was the longtube maker at almost $900 and only made 10 sets, every know and then you will see a set go up for sell around $400.

FFF 3.8L Long Tubes First Sale!!

CIA Headers ARE still available:
High Performance Exhaust Systems - Chevy Camaro V6 Headers

To the OP, go with stainless for longevity, that's what I would do, coated stainless would keep down the heat levels under the hood.

The magnaflow system is stainless what happened that it is leaking???

Headers are a great upgrade for your 97. The factory even went to a header style manifold in 2000. Installing them with the motor out is a lot easier

Question

Was it hard to remove? Did you tune it to delete the EGR from the computer?

Any problems from removing it?
