went to repair shop

and the following part was discontinued

really frustrated that ebay sellers are not thorough & precise enough

there are valve covers for pontiacs and there's no Ebay seller mentioning of the exact wording the mechanic @ repair shop mentioned which is the following:
"Breather on passenger side valve cover"

oh, if this part is broken then there will be an oil leak from this particular area.

 

also: it's like a cylinder or tube in shape that's like 2 inches in length

My repair guy said the above is wrong: it is not the above ebay listing: but a "breather or groumet on passenger side valve cover" (still having trouble finding this pesky discontinued part that even gm doesn't have)

 

I see a bunch of after market ones on ebay ,sounds like those will work 93 Camaro 3,4l valve cover breather ,looks like they make a kit for both sides

 

Did you look it up in the parts catalog?

Craby I owe you a dinner at a classic malt shop with tasty late 50's early 60s burgers Right on. This is the 2nd time you've been helpful, once on a vacuum hosing and now here. I'd figure that since GM discontinued the part, there is still an outlet or other gem-like, diamond-in-the-rough markets that sells "genuine GM parts." *For future reference, members, this is a very, very specific part, no room for error...and no, my friends, I haven't checked the parts manual...here it is from an older experienced mechanic who owns his own repair shop in So. Cal: "Breather on Passenger Side Valve Cover for a 1993 Camaro, V-6; 3.4 Liter engine."

Other Liter sizes are sold in other on-line markets such as a different Liter Engine.

Also, sure the F body thing with the Pontiac Firebird seems like these distant cousins should be interchangeable...but please Ebay Sellers SPELL IT OUT, PRECISELY....BE THOUROUGH ugh!

If it's interchangeable, then for example, the little old lady from Pasadena driving a Dodge Challenger needs to know so, Mr. Ebay Seller.

Anyway, it is NOT a PCV breather, but a *Passenger Side Breather *

Here's the can of worms that can happen if you get a PCV valve from O'Reilly's...It will Affect one's Emissions....and in California that means you will not be able to pass smog every 2 years, and thus not be able to register your vehicle. Not a position you want to be in....trust me, I'm a Californian.

***In fact, the initial precise wording and caution of what can happen was given to me by that above-mentioned, experienced, older mechanic, the 1st highly Yelp-customer-service-reviewed repair shop owner/ tech. Another younger, yet cracker-jack talented mechanic said it can be purchased from O'Reilly's Autoparts as a PCV, then Modified with an Elbow. I mentioned to this younger, all-star mechanic, a prodigy really among many accounts: that someone else said it's not a PCV valve side but a "passenger side" and he firmly, yet politely told me it doesn't matter.

Rather than argue with him that this info. came to me from an older experienced mechanic who actually owns the repair shop, I agreed with him. I didn't want to do battle with his justifiable Ego based on his reputed talent, because after all, I'll need his skill since I'm now facing some type of small hole in my car which causes a small leakage of coolant. More on that later, my Camaro student-friends Thanks again, members for your help

*What it boils down to, I'm learning....is that these little discontinued parts like a Y tube connector, are sold in sets, packages, not individually, but part of something else.

I learned that 5 months ago when Craby helped me find a Y Tube plastic piece that in its absence would cause RPM's to go up to 5-6 (000) at Idle, is actually Part of a "Vacuum Tree"

So, I'm glad I didn't order anything.

When researching for auto parts, especially discontinued ones, there is such a temptation to look at the shiny, pretty colorful pictures and not read the description or...shame on you most Ebay sellers....."lack of description"...and such a temptation to hit "click" and go to checkout and be done with this little cheap yet important and elusive autopart to just be over with this search.

and to pick whatever heck looks or appears like what little piece of plastic is broken or coming apart.

but, it's not good to be mouse-trigger happy & click away at on-line autoparts markets, but instead get it from the horses mouth, a / k / a ....a definitive, authoritative source like an experienced older, mechanic with 5 out of 5 star Yelp reviews from 1,000s of customers on his business' Yelp page.

For the record, that same elbow fits a multitude of different vehicles, from Camaro, Corvette, Cavalier, Firebird, plus a bunch of other Chevy/Pontiac/Buick/Oldsmobile cars. In your application, it's used for the crankcase vent grommet, on other cars, it's used for the PCV valve hook up. So nobody was wrong in their description, it's what the grommet is referred to. As shown in the link craby gave, that's a discontinued GM part. So if you're having a difficult time finding one, Dorman part #47054 is the aftermarket replacement.
