got a set of 3.42s off a 30k mile z28 wreck, the code was gu6 i believe. what made me took it was the noise coming from the back was getting louder/ more grinding. took it to 2 shops and both said pinion gear on the way out (111k) and wanted 700 for a used rear and another 350 or so to install. that being the case i took it into my own hands, i was able to take out the rear, but getting the new one in is proving to be tricky. does anyone have some suggestions and or tips? im going to do u joints one shot as i have it free(did notice trans fluid coming out as i pulled the drive shaft) also, how can i bleed the new rear calipers without introducing air? i connected the lines already so more fluid doesnt leak out, but left the car in N so i dont have to use the brake pedal for anything until i figure out bleeding.

 

what year camaro is it out of? do you have traction control? does the new rearend have traction control? are you changing the whole rearend or the center section?

Search Youtube of brake bleeding "How to" Videos. Do not pump the brakes during the bleeding process, Right now all the air is in the back of the car. You do not want that air to get up into the ABS system because you will need a high end scan tool to get it out.

 

hey everyone my apologies for the delay, trying to get 100 things done at once, the rear was from a 02 z28 ls1 m6 30k miles

my car has traction control, this rear end is identical on the outside to mine wires and all

i have read and heard some of the horror stories about bleeding these cars, a tech 2 scanner is involved? i figure since i have air only from the end of the line to caliper, maybe i can bleed it the old fashion way with a person in the car?

 

i have done mine with the key off with the thought that the abs would not be on. i have never done traction control but i dont think thats an issue. i just did mine the old fashion way. had to reset the brake light. do that by putting the brakes on really hard.

 

sounds good, one more thing, since two lines were disconnected and then reconnected with the new rear, when i bleed it, i should be cracking both calipers, press the brake, lock the caliper bleeder, then let off the brake pedal, or else air if i do one at a time will get into the system, does this sound right?

 

Crack open both rear bleeders, remove the reservoir cover, and let the fluid gravity feed.
As the fluid starts to run out, close the bleeder. Then you can do your final pump & bleed.

 

i was thinking about that 69, but doesnt the abs unit after the master cylinder stops gravity bleed from happening?

 

I don't see why it would. In the idle state, the ABS valve is open and fluid passes right through to the brakes.
