Hey all, hows it goin? newbie here, just had a question about a potential Camaro I know for sale:

1996 convertible V6
68,xxx original miles
garage kept since it was bought
asking $3000, although someone supposedly offered $3500

As far as I know there are no major problems with it and it is in immaculate shape. Going to check it out regardless on sunday, but I figured I'd ask people with 4th gen experience if its a good deal. KBB says like $6100 or something so I know the price is right, but is it worth it for a good, reliable driver? Anything I should look for? Any help is appreciated, thanks.

 

you need to check the undercarriage and the usual rust areas

Also verify the top works and seals well

if you want a sixer OK

don't come back here asking how to get more performance. If you think you will, then don't buy a sixer

 

Dont hate the sixer; she can still gain performance. Ask Socom

 

if the body is solid and top works and seals, and runs good, seems like a fair price

 

its not hate, its truth. can it go faster? yes. can it do it for cheap? no.

96 was also the first year for the 3800 and wasn't that also the first year of OBDII, or was 96 still stuck in that OBD1.5 stage?

Uhh, if I recall.. Speed costs money.. nothing should be cheap unless you slap a fart can on a honda.

 

Basically what he means by "cheap" is that the person with a v6 will have to put in TONS of cash in order to get it top notch. Nobody starts dumping cash and mods into their car to get it to run decently fast or moderately quick, most go in for as much as they can with what they have and can get. So, if a person gets a v6 they're not going to be happy with only putting in a small amount of cash because they won't be gaining much. All or nothing sort of motto, if he's going to want a lot of speed then going after a sixer shouldn't be the route he goes, especially since he wants it as a DD.

 

Oh if fast is what he wants then I agree, dont go for a sixer, if it's within his price range then hell, go for the v8, I wish I took that route in the first place. I dont see what connects speed with a daily driver?

 

My z is the DD and when I have time and cash I'll be putting more mods into it. If the op is just wanting a car to be his dd beater then why not, go for it.
