Fuel pump question ........................ >>>
..... I`ve been trying to hunt down a fuel pump for my `97 Camaro 3.8L and after a number a calls to various jank yards, I got a call back. The guy told me he has a `96 or `97 TransAm on his lot and I can have the pump for $50 if I take it out myself. I figured it would also be a good "exercise" as far as cutting that hutch above the gas tank. He also assured me that the TransAm/Firebird share the same pump - and other parts - with the Camaro.
Should I go for this deal or just buy a new pump?
Also, about cutting that hutch ..... how safe it is to cut thru the seet metal with the Dremel ? I mean ... the sparks.... you are basicaly sitting on a tank of gas .... are there any other methods to cut that hutch without sparks flying ???

".... some have used good hd tin snips...."
Thanks, I was thinking about the snips but don`t know how thick is the sheet metal that`s above the fuel pump...
Actualy I got a 2nd question....
does it make sense to replace the WHOLE fuel pump assambly that cost $300 to $400 or just get the actual fuel pump that only cost $100 and some places even less ?
Thanks

the 100dollar pumps are a shot in the dark. could last a few yrs or a few days. yah lifetime warrenty but u gotta change em. should be able to find a delphi oem pump for 190. maybe a little less.

This is what I found but, of course, there are other sites that sell them as well - more or less for the same price. But I don`t know much about Walbro only what I read in some of the posts .... some guys complain that the unit is loud.

What`s your take on it? Also, what do you know about Delpi fuel pump ?

i had one of those walbro pumps so i used it. had to plastiweld the plastic housing back together. wasnt sure what glue would work and i have a small plastic welder so it came in handy. i have found alot of info that they can last a short time or a long time, i just figured i had it already and it would never get used if i didnt use it. lol. its not loud at all but its inside the old housing too. that may help. the oem replacement is a delphi but i think ive seen some that were not gm oem. i figure if/when i replace it ill pick up one. i did notice the 96-97 pump is more than the 93.
