Question Fuel Pump Failure or Electrical Problem??

Hey guys I am wondering if anybody could respond back or direct me to a post with a diagnostic procedure for ruling out any other possibilities besides a bad fuel?

My car cranks but doesnt start.

Don't wanna buy and replace a new fuel pump if its not the problem.

Thanks

Check to see if you have fuel pressure at the rail. You only need a few things to start a car: Air, spark, fuel, and compression. Start with spark and fuel and go from there.

Give a squirt of starting fluid into the throttle body. If she fires up momentarily, you know you have spark and it's a fuel delivery problem. One down, one to go.

The way I found my bad pump was checked the electrical connection that goes to the pump near the drivers side rear tire up on the bottom like under the seat. I checked it and it was getting 12 volts so I knew the pump was bad.

Does this work with fuel injected cars? I got a 96' 3.8l cam.

I don't think i got pressure at all. When I press down on the valve thats on the fuel pressure rail WHILE i turn the ign. no fuel spews out. This is one of the reasons I think the pump if dead.

Yes it does. Open the butterfly, and give it shot down the throat.

Check your electical connections first. Like the fuse and relay. You should have 12v going to the grey wire coming down from the gas tank for the pump. If you do and the pump isnt running its probably time to upgrade. I would go ahead and stick a 255 in if thats the case.

Are those the only electrical components to check? I know the fuel pump switch near the brake pedal is switching on. So i think that switch is good. I'm guessing the fuse will be in the fuse box? I check out that grey wire.

Anything else? By the way, I appreciate the help guys
