I was changing my fuel filter yesterday I had to unplug the fuel pump fuse and when I went to start my car it didn't want to start it was cranking but it did not start it seems to me like the fuel wasn't kept as it should. What might be the problem and what would be the solutions?

 

Did you hear the fuel pump run when trying to start engine?

 

If you never let the system charge then the car will not want to start. The fuel pressure will bleed off after a time so if the car was sitting for 10 mins or so there will be no line pressure. I would not worry about anything it sounds like your car is normal.

Yeah then what might be causing it not to want to start normal sometimes i need to crank it from 6 seconds and then it starts when i try it again, when it warms up and i turn it off and on it starts right away what might be causing this to happen? I checked the alternator and the batter they all came out as good.

 

do a fuel pressure test on it. some systems will bleed of slowly over time but it should hold pressure for a while. if your losing fuel pressure right away it could be the fuel pressure regulator or the fuel pump is goin or the check valve is stuck in it. be best to do a fp check.

My old 2001 Alero was a hard starting car when we brought it home. It turned out to be the fuel pump. While it did work it would not build up enough pressure to effectivly start the engine. New pump, no problem. Now one way I was able to get the car to start better was to cycle the prime cycle a couple of times to build up the pressure. Just turn the key on but not crank the engine, listen for the fuel pump to prime. Once the fuel pump shuts off, turn the key off then on again really quick. This will build up the pressure. Do this 3 or 4 times and the car should start normally. If the fuel system is the issue.

ok massey i tried it and i think you're right it might be the fuel pump...now what are your ideas on solving this?

 

Ok i,ve gotten time to test it and when i turned the key to on position the fp was @ 20 psi when i did it a few times it went up 2 50 when i got it started it stayed @ 47 and after i turned it off it fell straight from 47 to 30 and then started to bleed out after 7 minutes it went to 0
