Default fourth gen noob

okay so my wife is a camaro nut and just got her first one from a parent she daycares for . its a 97 t-top 3.8 car .

so heres my deal i run a 95 s-10 with a 400hp 355 which is currently out of the truck due to me finding a lt1 roadmaster doner any ways she wants a little more pep in the old maro so i was wondering if you guys knew of any specific part made for such a swap (carbed 355 in a fourth gen) as it look s i may have a hang up with the distributor also carb clearance i want it to look like a 3.8 car still so a cowls not an option

one more thing waht auto trannys did they put in these 3.8 cars

and i know what you guys are thinking put the lt in the maro but come on you dont see many s-10s with one do ya

thanks for the help

you know by dropping that motor in a 3.8 camaro body youl need a new tranny, suspention, rear end, prolly better off buying a lt1 camaro for less then $4,000 ..............

the autos had the 4l60e's just like the v8s, but he is right you would have to swap all that out, and its impossible for the clearance if you were to go carb, so you would have to get a new computer/wiring harness for it to work

it would, be cheaper/easier/make more senseto build up the 3.8.. i mean hell they already have 200hp.. 75 more hp and you might as well call it an LT1.

Hey Spartan, there's no replacement for displacement...plus, you talk about 75 HP like it's easy to get there, and you still have to consider what kind of torque numbers you'll be putting down if you want to compare it to an LT1. All in all, just like everyone else said, look around for an LT1 or keep with what you have, fitting in the carbed motor is a lot of work especially for what you can get an LT1 Camaro for.

Yes, the transmission is the same. Though the bellhousings and input shafts are different...

nobody has mentioned it, but the distributor probably wont fit under the cowl. you are better off using a fuel injected motor that is distributorless. if you go onto ls1tech.com and go into the hybrid section theres all types of jobs posted in there...check it out.

maybe the newer 5.3L would do the trick. they are relatively inexpensive and still powerful, plus most LS1 parts will swap over.

I was kidding! I know theres no replacement for displacement... theres a kid at my school who claims that his rotary RX7 that weighs 3400lbs has 250hp and like 210tq is faster than my camaro. I was just saying because its not like he wants to hit the strip hardcore with it his wife just wants a car with a bit more pep in its step, bolt ons like exhuast and intake, some internal work, gears, rear end and a programmer/dynotune and the car will be peppier than your average 3800 series V6.
