I purchased a fog light switch for my car because I realized that the connector for the switch was there but I can’t seem to find an answer to if the harness for the actual lights themselves exist in my car. I want to wire the fog lights up in my car as the night time visibility is terrible. The switch seems to work correctly, turns on when low beams are on and turns off when high beams are on.
The thing I am trying to figure out is if all 97 cars came with a connector for fog lights or not.

A base model Camaro Coupe (RPO 1SA), a base model RS Coupe (RPO 1SN) or a base model Z28 (RPO 1SG) was not offered with the fog lights according to the 1997 Chevrolet Order Guide. The car would have to had been ordered with a Preferred Equipment Group 1 or 2 to get them. Check your Service Parts Identification label to see what RPO's your car came from the factory with. If it had one of the Preferred Equipment Groups RPOs shown in the pictures below, it would have definitely had the fog light connector. It could be possible that a base model car may not have any components of the fog light system.

I have a 1998 Z28 with factory fog lights. I do not like the way they operate, as stock. I have to turn on the markers or headlights before the fog light switch will work.
If the factory wiring is not there, and even if it is, you might want to run straight battery power to the switched contacts of a dedicated relay, then on to the fog lights. Any common 20~30 Amp relay should do the job. If the fog light switch can operate without the markers or headlights being switched ON, it would provide a nice control line for the new fog light relay, as is. If you need to find switched 12Vdc power to feed into the fog light switch, that would work the way I would want it to work, also. Next time I tear into the front end, I may just follow my own advice here, to get the fog lights working without needing the headlight switch. Just be sure you make a note in the Owner's Manual about the Part Number and physical location of the relay that you add.
