Default FIPK Intake

ive done some searching and i cant find a thread that exactly answers my question

what makes a k&n intake and others like it more efficient than just a tube running the same way?

my car has some type of aftermarket intake but i dont see a brand im just looking for info and whether its worth spending 200ish dollars on an intake

the expanded chamber in the moroso and k&n types lets the air flow better.

What a cold air intake does is pulls cold (and thus denser) air into the intake. This air has more volume than the hot air that is pulled in from the engine bay so you get a better burn and thus more HP. Or at least that is the theory. Now you will gain a little HP maybe 10, doing it this. I had a CAI on my Avalanche and I lost my low end torque but I gained a little in the upper RPMs, I didnt like this in my truck since it was hauling and towing from time to time. Now I used the drop in filter and I noticed a 2mpg gain on the freeway and about 1mpg in town, no loss of low end torque. That was a better choice for me. Now with my Camaro I have a 99 with the updated nose and intake. That intake is almost as efficient as the CAI (minus the baffels and silencer) and you do not see much for gains using a CAI. Most guys get a SLP lid and use smooth tubing to the TB and that works just as good. Oh and I use the drop in on my engine as well.

dont make fun of me for the disgusting condition of my engine bay, same ******* decide to key both of my fenders but luckily they didn't put much muscle into it so i spent 11 hours yesterday buffing them out and a lot of spatter go in there as i had to have the hood open due to the position of the scratches

im also not to familiar or smart about engine stuff so if this is some absolute crap intake feel free to tell me how stupid i am for leaving it on there when i bought it

yep that looks to be a ebay special. it most likely is robbing you of hp, not adding.
