Default A few quick questions(tuning,shiftkits,reargears)

Alright so here it all is

1. im looking into a tune, i have a 93Z so how should i go about doing this, ive looked around but in the end im pretty confused on what i should be doing, all filters/wires/plugs were recently changed also

2. my cars speedo and odometer do not read right, does this mean i have different rear gears?, also if i do how do i check this

3. im also looking into a shift kit, any recommendations? car is not a daily driver, and how would this effect tune

and lastly, what prices am i looking at for all this?

93 has a chip, also called memcal, also called a prom. memcal is what it is. its inside the ecu. pcmforless and lt1pcmtuning are good places to have it done. you fill out a form that has your mods in it and they make a memcal to replace the one in your ecu.

as for gears, if they have been changed then your rpo codes will not help. you can jack up the rearend, both tires, and turn the tires (on posi both will turn the same direction) one revolution while counting the number of times the driveline turns. if it
turns 3 1/4 turns its a 323. if it turns a little less than 3 1/2 times its a 342, if it turns 3 3/4 times its 373. get the idea.

the transmission is a 700r4 also called a 4l60. heres a good place to look at for info and parts.

for a real, legitimate tune, you need a dyno and tunable ecu or chip. so ull have to take it a shop with a dyno and tuning services. could be a bit pricey but def worth it in the long run.
but, some fancy handheld tuners can tune the car themselves! this would suffice for a dyno tune.

as for using a shift kit, you should be able to use one. being a 93, and having a non electronically controlled transmission, it wont adapt to the shift kit like a 4L60-E would (you got just a 4L60). most people put shift kits into late model auto transmissions and the intelligent TCU's just learn to cope with the shift kit and eventually override them and deem them worthless. but this isnt the case for you. unless i am mistaken and you do have an electronic controlled trans.

not with the 93, 93 is a unique 4th gen. has a tunable chip/memcal. the only thing thats controlled by the computer in the trans is the converter lock. 93 is unique there as well, it can be locked in 3rd and 4th gears and i think 2nd but havent got that far yet. far as i know the only yr that does. anyways he is on the right track now and should see some gains with the tune. phalen which place did you go with i have a solomon in mine now.

i got a Solomon, i put your name in the who recommended me thing

i dont really trust non personal websites and stuff, or websites in general but his seemed pretty honest and man to man type not just "buy this! we havent lowered the price in years and we have 3000 of them just sitting on the shelf!" type places

thus the issue of me buying stuff online and having shops do stuff for me hehe
