Default a few problems with my car...please help =[

I just bought this car about 6 months ago from a friend of my dad's and the car is awesome, it's just there are a few problems with it. If anyone could tell me how to fix them or atlease what the problem is I would be very grateful. Here's a list:

1. When I slow down to stop, at a stop sign for example, once I come to a stop my RPM's dip down below 1 to about the .5 mark and then come back up...usually, sometimes my RPM's will bounce back up several times before sticking and sometimes it just stays at .5 and the car sounds like it's going to die...but it doesn't. The car has done this since I owned it...but I want to fix it because it makes the car seem like a piece of crap.

2. When I back out of my drive way I turn the wheels to the left to get out and back up. When I start backing up there's a constant popping noise towards the front of my car. It sounds like it's in the suspension but I only hear it when I'm backing up...that just started happening about two days ago.

It's a 1996 Z28 LT1

Also when I start it, it barely wants to start during the summer but it does fine during the winter. If I drive it during the summer I have to put it on the battery charger every night because otherwise after I've driven it all day and shut it off, it won't start back. Please help. I really need to fix this.

How old is the battery? Maybe time to get a new one. As for your problem #1, I would think that the Idle Air Control valve (IAC) may need to be cleaned. Is the Service Engine Soon light lit?

We actually put a brand new battery and starter in it when it started doing that.

The service engine soon light comes on and goes off but my dad thought it was because I had an O2 sensor that was bad.

You may try and go to AutoZone, or someplace like that, and they will read the codes for free. Even if the light isn't in, there may be a code or two stored in there.

If you replaced the battery and you're having this issue I would recommend removing your alternator and getting it tested as well.

By the way, you will notice that your duplicate thread in General Tech has disappeared. In the future please keep your topics to 1 thread in the section you feel it best fits.
Thanks

Okay will they be able to read the codes if it has a tune in it?

And sorry about that I just started using the forums today and I wasn't sure which one it should be in...=/

As long as they have access to the OBD-II port, they can read codes.

I understand it's your first day, and I'm not mad, it's a common occurrence, although I would recommend reviewing these, I know you read them when you first joined, you've just forgot since it's been a while...

Okay is there any possible way it could be the tune causing the RPM's to dip?
