Default faulty ECM ?

Hey everyone, I have a '93 camaro that I just diagnosed at the mechanic today. He found that I have a faulty ECM and air pump. Does anyone know if the ECM can be repaired? and/or any advice on how to go by doing that? cuz I would really like to save money on buying a new one. Thanks

Are those two things related? If not, what other error was the faulty ECM causing? You don't need to have a functioning air pump, but it would trip a check engine light if it has an electrical problem. And if your car has to pass emissions, it won't with the light on. You can get that tuned out of the ECM though.

I don't think so? when he was going through the checklist, the air pump wasn't getting power, so he hot-wired it and it still wouldn't output power. I'm guessing he must've put in a spare part for it to test out ok and then the ECM turned out to be faulty. Really? so if I have a bad air pump it won't "affect" how the car runs? and how can I get it tuned out of the ECM for the light not to turn on?

check the fuse to the air pump. the ecm in the 93 are becoming quite rare and are not cheap or easy to come up with especially if its an auto trans. the ecm is however very durable. the prom or memcal are usually what goes wack and causes a code 51, i have had a ecm go bad on me though, had water in there and ruined it, man what it took to find another. you could check to make sure its in correctly and you do not have an aftermarket chip in the ecm.

here is some info on what a aftermarket chip will look like.

the blue part is the stock prom the green colored part plugged into it is the aftermarket memcal.

So, are you saying that the mechanic diagnosed the ECM as being the cause for the no power to the pump? Is that the only problem with it then? The air pump only runs for a short time after a cold engine start to help warm up the catalytic converter faster. It has no positive or negative effect on engine performance.

He can't tell. But he said the no power to the pump was because the pump is bad. The ECM is a separate thing that is causing the engine light to go on. I don't think they r related.
