Default which exhaust?

I am looking to swap out the muffler in my 02 SS camaro but I just dont know what to get ha. Currently I am running longtube hooker headers into the stock gutted SS muffler. It sounds pretty good but I would like it to sound a bit better. Now I have heard things about the flowmasters and magnaflow that I will lose horsepower and just gain sound, now I dont know if that is true at all? I have also been looking into the SLP loudmouth system but will that just be way to loud on the highway with my headers? Let me know your guys opinions because it is a big decision ha. Thanks

Some Flowmasters hold back power, but most of theirs will give you a slight edge over a stock one. Magna Flow is a good budget brand, as well as Thrush. Borla and Corsa are some top brands but are pricey.

There's also the cheapest (and my personal favorite) exhaust of all, open headers!!!!

Im not really sure what my budget it ha, I dont want to spend a fortune on it tho. What series of flowmaster or magnaflow will give me the best advantages? Because really all I need is a muffler, I already have the headers and the y pipe, I just dont want to cause any restrictions with whatever I choose to put on. Keep the advice comin tho ha

What brand of headers and y pipe do you have? Is it an ORY or catted? Reason I ask brand is because the cheap sets (Pacesetter, Ebay brand) sound like absolute crap with any sort of bullet, shotgun or resonator muffler. An ORY will give you rasp with most setups, especially those of the likes of the Loudmouth and other bullets. I would recommend getting a catback over just a muffler; easier install, stainless steel, mandrel bends all well worth the extra cost. Magnaflow is generally on the mellow side, even with an ORY. Flowmaster 80 series is absolute crap, the 40, 44, 50 and 10 are teh only ones worth considering, however Flowmaster is so overdone; every damn pickup and muscle car has them. The TSP Rumbler is another choice similar to that of the SLP LM2 for a bit less cash. The GMMG sounds fantastic, but is expensive and heavier than other setups. Corsa sounds good, but too expensive to be worth it, same with Borla imo. However, getting a SLP LM and replacing the LM resonator with a Borla XR1 is quite popular (aka BorlaMouth) and sounds pretty good. Another combination with the Loudmouth setup is using a Magnaflow bullet (aka MagnaMouth), and the Magnaflow bullets come in a variety of flavors.

to be honest I am not even sure what kind of y-pipe it is, i got the car with that all installed already, i just know that they r hooker LT headers and the y pipe has no cats and it is stainless steel, so whatever will sound good with that ha. Lots of good info tho, thanks

You need to have an idea of what you want. With an ORY a lot of setups will have rasp, most people hate rasp, some don't. To keep the exhaust mellow and generally rasp free, Magnaflow is a popular, cheap choice for a catback.

That website is a nice find, now I just have to keep listening ha. I liked the hooker catback but after doing some more research apparently the quality isnt there and the muffler start to rattle pretty quick. The SLP is just to loud to be a daily driver with the headers so I am leaning towards the magnaflow catback so far. Thanks guys

The Hooker Aerochamber catback has only recently been getting reports of bad quality, their previous stuff has always been top notch. Hooker Aerochamber is about the same level as Magnaflow in terms of volume
