My car got hit yesterday. No one was hurt. I was in the left lane when a teenage girl (with a dog) decided she should be in the left lane and without looking drove right into my car. I saw it coming. The jarred me a little but the 2012 Toyota just bounced off me. I guess 3500 lbs and a low center has its advantages. Car took the blow very well, at no point did I lose control. This was a cattle shoot type road and I had on about 3 ft between me and concrete.

Rocker panel has some damage its tuff to see in the pic. Front rim has some rash on it.

1996 3800\5-Speed. 195,000 T-tops. I would list the car in good condition for cosmetics and very good mechanically

What do you guys think about repair cost? I am guessing it will be a total loss. What should I accept?

I do plan on fixing it myself no matter what happens with insurance.

I don't know much about how insurance companies evaluate damage to vehicles, but if they consider that a total loss, then I would think someone is smoking something. From the pics, that doesn't look all that bad. Too me it looks like something that could fixed in a weekend.

I was thinking 3500-4K myself. Even the best from the dealer Kelly blue book puts the car value at 4K. $2800 seems a like more realistic for the value.

Typically, once repairs exceed 80% of the car's value, insurance companies consider it "totaled". By the book, you're likely to be there.

I rememeber seeing a 89 Iroc 305 a couple of year ago go through the auction. It was "totaled" by the insurance company. It was a 305 TPI automatic 120K I think. It looks like it hit a wood fence post going about 15 mile per hour. Small amout of damage at the head light bezel and marks down one side of the car. Like mine the car was a totaled but 100% drivable and safe with no problem passing any safety inspection as is. Heck I had seen many NON totaled 3rd gens that look a lot worse. The salvage title was the killer of that car. I would have bought it but I am not a dealer and the guy I was with was not around to bid for me.

I am curious what the adjuster will say about the damaged Plastic dip coated rim LOL. Yea have your body shop fix that

I would look the door over really good for any cracks. If there any then most shops will scrap the door. Had that with my 98 when it got backed into. That bill was 2200

Yeah, "totaled" has absolutely nothing to do with the drive-ability or safety of the car, although "the car tried to climb a tree" is usually the first thing that goes through ones mind. It only means the cost of repairs, of any kind, isn't in line with the car's value.

There are small cracks (1/2" long) and some "splinters" right in the front part of the door where all the white is showing.

Are you says that just the door was $2200?

I found a door and fender in green at a yard listed with no codes (meaning the parts are not even scratched A1 condition). I just need time to get there and check them out.

You guys think $2800 is a decent settlement?

I talked to the insurance company today and they said the only defense the girl gave was she said she put her turn signal on, I must not have seen it. LOL I was next to her.
