Default Engine surge or something else??

I just got a 95 3.4V6 convertible on Jan 3rd. The only thing I had done was get a new battery since it was sitting for 4 months. It was running fine no issues till a few days ago. Sunday the car wouldn't start on the first try anymore, would take a 2 or 3 with hitting the gas. When the engine is cold it does a lunging forward when at a stop. After its warmed up the lunging stops. The rpms fluctuate but just a lil bit at idle. I did have the battery off over night and I noticed it did not have a MAF sensor. Could a tune been lost or what?

every time you unhook the battery the computer resets, it has to relearn over again and can take a few starts to get adjusted, it also clears the trouble codes. pretty sure a 95 has maf and without it, it would run in open loop all the time and not be happy after a time. be a good idea to run it for a while without unhooking battery and then have it scanned for trouble codes.

The battery has been on since Saturday, Friday was when it was left off. Since Sunday it's been running like this. The previous owner had done a new engine replacement with all the paperwork to show. I know these cars won' run good without the maf sensor but where it' suppose to be there's nothing.

I didn't see any wiring for a MAF sensor. I tried to get it scanned but noone I found has a OBD1 scanner. I may have to go to the dealer. I'll look on the computer if theres anything. Where are they located on these cars?

Thanks I'll try those. I also got a IAC valve hopefully thats what it is since its having the problem at idle. I also read that the temp sensor can cause an issue like this. I also notice it never reaches half way. The most it'll get to is the second mark above the 160.

I did not pull the manual but a quick rock auto check does not list a MAF sensor under 3.4 exhaust & emission so I would assume it does not have one. Any engine without a MAF engine will rely heavy on MAP sensor and coolant and air temp sensors along with the TPS.

You need to see the codes. You don't want to load up the parts cannon and start firing. Once you start swapping parts you can be adding to the variable and make the issue harder to find. People think if they put all new parts on a car it eliminates possible issues. If you ask anyone doing this for awhile its the opposite. Defective parts, miss installed or wiring issue cause by disturbing 20+ year old can make a easy diagnoses a nightmare.

Example: You replace your IAC but the real problem is the EGR valve. Because the EGR valve will not seal the IAC can not find it home. So now you have a leaking EGR valve and a IAC that can not home correctly. Add in a TPS that can't calibrate because of bad connector and a defective O2 sensor and you would drive the best tech nuts and tear huge hole in you bank account.
