Default emissions inspection

i took my camaro to get it inspected about 3 days ago, he said it failed the emission part and that he thought the previous owner had punched in the cat converter, but i crawled under the car today and saw that the cat looked fine, anybody have any ideas what else could be causing my car to fail the emissions?

the cat may have had its internals punched out. if osmeone stuck a rod in there and broke out the honeycomb you will fail.

is there anyway to find out if that is what it is without taking the cat off?

not really.
but its not hard.

what is the emissions protocol in your state? did they actually put a tailpipe sniffer in there, or was it a visual inspection only? if its visual only and u failed make sure there is actually a cat housing and try again, maybe ur dude was having a bad day or something.,

but if u failed the sniffer test that means there is probably no cat left.

i live in houston, which is really strict about emissions, i think they put a tailpipe sniffer in there because he gave me all the readings that said it failed

If the check engine lite is off, and the car runs good, then the cat is shot.
