to confirm test hook test light to positive side of battery and touch power wire with probe, if wire is grounded light will come on.

will get my hands on a light and post the results tomorrow.
and I thought this would be an easy fix. HA.

Did that test, light came on. it was grounded. now where exactly does that leave me anyone?

need to unhook the plugs to the ecm and see if wire is still grounded. if it is its in the wire if it is not is the ecm.

Craby I pulled the ecm and the ground wire was still grounded. So there is no doubt a short in that wire?

Also, I had a spare ecm from a 96 camaro, put it in just out of curiosity.
Still seemed to idle rough. drove for about 5 or 10 miles and no SES light.
Headlights and interior lights dimmed and flickered slightly.

Going to put the original back in tomorrow just to be safe.

went back and looked at schematic and there are two brown wires. hot wire should be to the ignition so goes hot when key is on.

Yeah i know there are two brown wires, one is power one is ground if i rember right.
no power to the power wire..

looks like the evap canister purge solonoid is on that line as is the cooling fan relay. try unpluging the fan relay or the purge solonoid and see if that clears the ground

if i test the circuit with the fan relay removed, and it dosent ground. the relay would be the problem?

same with the purge solonoid?

thats what i am thinking. you are doing all this while the key is on correct
