Default Driveshaft issues

Ok, first i wanna say this site kicks a**. So i just bought my first camaro. Its a 1995 convertible. I did have to change the the engine in it. Anywhoos, i noticed the 2 piece driveshaft. I think whats called the carrier bearing is bad. Is this something i can buy at autozone...or is this a dealer item only? how hard is it to change out? can i just swap out the 2 piece for a one piece? If yes, witch one will be a direct drop in and be done with it? thanks for any info. Jason
p.s....I dont think it was a bad deal for $800.

LS1 (98-02) style aluminum driveshaft is a direct replacement from what I understand.

Easy to remove, four bolts holding the rear U joint and 2 bolts above the carrier bearing, lower it and slide it out of the tranny. Have a pan handy incase tranny fluid starts coming out the tail shaft of the tranny.

This right here is your best option and very true. Not to mention you get a bit of a performance boost by losing about 20 lbs and less rotating mass.

You'll also not have to worry about the carrier bearing going bad because there isn't one

A little FYI...3rd gen and 4th gen driveshafts are interchangeable. So if you're not dead set on spending the money on a newer aluminum one, you can get one from a 1992 on up.
Oh, and when I put an aluminum driveshaft on my 96, then used the same one on my 91, I weighed the two. The stock steel shaft weighs 16 lbs. and the aluminum weighs 12 lbs. A savings of 4 lbs.
Even though your two-piece driveshaft assembly does weigh a little more than a standard one-piece, you're not going to be dropping 20 lbs of spun weight.
And if you're wondering, no I didn't notice a difference in performance.
