Default Door Lock issue.

95 z28. I searched and couldnt find the info I was looking for? I cant open my driver side door from the outside with my key any longer. It wont even twist. It feels like it stuck or jammed. What could it be. I havent had a chance to look and check it out but I plan to do so some time this week. Could it be the door lock actuator went bad or something?

Are you sure its not the key? I mean is it worn down?

The two most likely things would be corroded tumblers in the lock, and a stiff locking mechanism. Spray penetrating oil (PB Blaster works very well) into the lock and work the key in and out several times and give the key a bunch of back and forth turns. Also spray the oil on the door latch mechanism and into any opening you can find through the door or between the glass and weatherstripping at the end of the door, with the window up. You want to try and soak any moving parts that are inside the doorthat are related to the lock.

spraying the key lock with oil is not a good ideal i use to b a locksmith and y i say its not good is that with oil it self collects dirt and dust and crap u don't want in the key lock. get some dry graphite I cant think of the name right now but any lock shop should have some and should know what i am talking about , oil will work but i could cost u in the end. any time it comes to key locks never use any type of oil. as for the oiling the door latch mechanism go right ahead.

Not trying to argue your point 8485, but at this point if his lock is frozen up, he's got nothing to lose. And graphite is good to use because it's a dry lubricant, but it isn't going to loosen any corrosion or rust that he may have locking up the tumblers.

I will try some wd40 and see what happens. Now if my door lock is done would you guys suggest taking to a locksmith or try replacing myself. My door still functions fine I just cant open with the key from the outside any longer.

Would you be planning on taking just the lock or the whole car to a locksmith? If you determine it's the lock and not the mechanism that's frozen, and soaking it in place doesn't help, then remove it from the door and let it soak in penetrating oil for a day. After soaking, heating it up and tapping it on a hard surface can also help free it up. Once you get it to move, keep working it and flushing it out.
