OK here is a 97 SS and you can see the spoiler and the hood. This car is a 30th annaversary special edition car. They only came in White with hugger orange stripes. Other SS models were available in other colors. Only the Special edition Cars were like this one.

Gotta agree with BasicConcepts. Go with what the VIN says.

The VIN sometimes only shows an SS as a Z28. Check with the RPO codes if it shows WU8 then the car is a true SS

well the SS is basically a Z28 with a nicer suspension and exhaust (for the most part)

Like they say, never ask a V6 or Z28 owner what the differences are between a Z28 and a SS. I forgot where I read that from.

well all ss cars started as a z28 and were sent to slp for the ss package which was the hood, spoiler, their intake and exaust, and the supension, wheels and tires. And do like massey said and check your repo codes if it has the wu8 then it was a ss from the factory

That is true. My vin shows up as a Z28. But I do have a 96, not a 97

And appearance. Yes. I know that mine (from the factory) has 25 more horses than the Z28 due to the ram air and exhaust.
