Default deprived of fuel, need opinions

Havent been on here in a while because my child has been behaving but this past week has been a nightmare from hell. I will just shorten it by saying that the fuel pump (original from what we can tell) went out so it was replaced in my yard sunday. They did the hatch method. I drove it for 2 days and it sounded better than it ever had. It had been idling high and low at various times and would nearly shut off but after the pump change, all that left.

Well Wed, I was on the way home from picking up my child. Coasting at 50 mph and went to accelerate to go up an incline and noticed my speedometer falling and the pedal had no affect. The car had cut off and was dead in the middle of a busy highway. I was stopped still and thank God that a power company boom truck came up behind me and put his flashers on and helped push me to side of the road.

The car would crank and spit and sputter and shut off within 3 seconds. I ended up towed home. The pump isn't priming. So it's been pulled back off and going to get exchanged but also, another more expensive one (different brand) is on the way. None of the parts stores here had one in stock. My son is changing that out again, fuel filter (which should of been done anyway) and fuel pump relay. What else should he look at? I'm done with the car myself which breaks my heart but I cant have it doing that again. Me and my 10 yr old could of easily been hit.

It's a 95 3.4

I did three Airtex pumps before I got one that worked. The fourth one has worked for years. I bought a high end pump just waiting for the last Airtex to fail and it never skipped a beat. Its the classic China issue, non-repeatable quality.

The second one died in traffic, it was one of the factory installed hoses came loose. I took it back anyway. The others got loud in less then a week, (bearing failure)

SES light was on anyway. It is idle related. It always comes on when I first let off gas in every trip. Fuel filter was changed today. We dont know when it last was. We've had it 6 yrs and we havent until today. The pump that was put on last weekend was a cheap one from carparts.com. Maybe 45 bucks. One will be here Monday that was a $200ish pump. Dont know brands. This one came from Advance. My son is doing all kinds of things to it right now. He's getting it ready for him to drive. He has the contents in his bedroom to build an entire car. To be honest, I'm terrified to drive it now anyway. I'm going this next week to pick out my 5th gen but this one still needs fixed. I dont want to let it go but it's gonna take a lot before I will take it out in traffic again.

ya i went through that with a 89 Dodge Daytona 3 pumps later it was fine, couse pumps just leave you stuck, the better pump an filter may do the trick your son must have a big room to fit all those parts in there for a whole car ,once those 3.4L have cost you to much money ,it may be time to think about a 3800 96 to 2002 3.8L,there more reliable an parts are more available, the 3.4L was a 93 to 95 year car an the damand for parts is becoming less couse it was replaced bye the 3.8 an those can be had from other cars too all the way to like 2008 ,wich 5th gen you getting or looking to get

Advance carries Carquest pumps now, which are made by Bosch, from what I was told. We use to carry AirTex, but they were having QC issues and since we bought out Carquest, we've been switching over to their vendors for most things. The only thing I wouldn't buy that says Carquest is the Carquest red filters...unless I had no other option.

Carquest is the brand he has ordered. The one that came from carparts.com was "replacement" brand? Anyway, hopefully putting more money into it will do the trick. I've done a lot to this car and I dont want a V8. Been there, done that with my 81 Z. I like better gas mileage and I am not in it to be racing anyone. We also are going to have to deal with the heating issue. It doesn't like traffic at all now and that's never been a problem. I think the plan is the thermostat first.

My son on the other hand is redoing his 90 RS. He has everything in that room from a radiator, coolant fan, entire AC system, and lots more. Rear end arrives via freight on Tuesday. Can't tell you how many times freight truck has been here since christmas. The last thing he needs is the engine. He was planning on doing all of this in July but now he's putting money into mine. I'm not sure the year of the 5th gen yet. They are all gorgeous to me and besides 1st gen, it's the only one I havent owned. Dont like the new ones, they have all but left out the headlights in my opinion. I have my financing done, just trying to locate the perfect car with not a lot of miles and in my budget lol

your mention 5th gen in the last post ,the 3800 is a bace car v6 that replaced the 3.4l in 96 other then some cally cars had the first 3800 in 95 3.8l ,there are some great deals on those cars out there ,see the 3.4l was not used in any other car that i know of ,like findeing a new timeing chain cover has to be found used now ,the mention of the 3800 is its just got more to offer ,the day may come that finding parts for those 3.4l cars will prove to be hard ,as alot of them are gone now ,its just a reality ,is why i mention the 3800,my 99 was 2k with 87k miles an have not done much to it at all ,its not nickle an dimeing me ,when a car does i personaly have to let go,food for thought one day ,the 5th gens have a 4 cycle engine that puts out the hp of a v8 then v6 that is more then the old lt1 v8 engine, the 3.4 cars are just in a tough spot becouse they replaced the engine in 96,some of us just choose v8 cars wich are becomeing a minority for the rich for new ones ,but some older ones can still be had for not so rich folks ,the world is moveing to high power 4cycle engines an v6 engines that out power older v8 engines sometimes an or most times now, dont get me wrong the 3.4l engine was desent i seen some getting over 200k miles then some, the same with the 3.8l 3800 one an the same i would look for a low miles 96 to 02 ,can be had for like 3 to 4k shop shop shop an those cars will have many parts for years to come avaiable over the 3.4l,is my point when looking for another camaro

I swapped out engines 4 yrs ago. I doubt I would buy another 4th gen. Just about have replaced everything on this one. I've had it over 6 yrs now. It shouldn't be my daily driver here soon but I get what you're saying.
