Dad trying to talk me out of a Camaro
My dad keeps trying to talk me out of a Camaro. He says they get terrible mileage and there just not that well built. He has a lot more experience with cars than I do but I still think hes wrong about the Camaros. I know the mileage isn't the best but what about how well built they are? I'm just looking for some things to tell my dad to change his opinion.

What sort of Camaro are you thinking about? There are a few model years with their quircks, but most of the 4th gens are pretty decent cars.
Just like any other car, maintenance after they are sold is the key. You can take a 1990 Rolls Royce, and if it wasn't properly maintained, it would only be marginally better than a Ford Festiva. This is true for any and all cars.

the build quality of these 4th gen cars are complete garbage. The only good thing to ever come out of a 4th gen was the motor. If its going to be your only car, I'd have to agree with your old man, get something else.

I drive a v6 5 speed camaro and get roughly 21-22 mpg in the city. 25-26 on the highway. which isnt bad at all. Im only 18 and i love having a camaro. The biggest problem to my knowledge with the V6's is the head gasket. Also with basic maintenance and conservative driving any car will last longer.
However, check out some hondas before you make a decision. 4 cyl. yes, but great gas mileage and top of the line quality.

not anymore, Hyundai and KIA beat them out according to consumer report and all the car rating agencies including JDM

Interior is not the best on these cars. It's not horrible and aw far as engines go they are great. Best thing to do is research the one you want and know what your getting yourself into. Mileage is not bad is actually fairly good for a sports coupe but for a first car maybe a lil 4 banger is best. My first car was a camaro that I still own but it was only $800.

Im only 18 and I own a 1995 Z28 they are very fun cars of course they aren't the best built cars on the road but they are really fun and chevy didn't hold back as far as the motors in these cars. the gas mileage isn't as bad as you think it would be as long as your not always gunning the throttle but they are good cars im pleased with mine it beats driving a honda EG rice rocket lol

I'm looking for 94-97 (I don't really like the headlights on the other ones) with a v8. Still thinking about whether to get manual or automatic. If I got one I would probably only keep it for a few years anyways.
