Unhappy coolant leak!!!

hey guys

new to the forum and got a question. my sister has a 2000 camaro v6 3.8 with 145,XXX miles that has developed a leak. after a while the car starts to get really high on temp gauge and "check gauges" light turns on. i traced the leak to the bottom of intake and just above the water pump. after i turn the car off i can hear it hissing and see water leaking from that position. Is this a hard fix? and is this the intake gasket that needs to be replaced?
thank you and any help on this is greatly appreciated..

Default Coolant leak

I don't know enough about Camaro's yet so I'm not sure if this applies to a 2000 model but it definitely to my 1997. I heard a hissing right above the water pump and water was gushing out. All it is is a plastic 90 degree elbow that's behind the tensioner assembly and I didn't even have to remove the intake. I pulled too hard on the tensioner assembly and I broke it so I had to buy a new one for $60. Good luck.

yep, its still the same. nasty little sucker in there. it might be worthwhile to replace the intake gasket while you are in there tho

Best thing to do is remove it and take It to the part store to match it. Oreillys has it on the shelf 2 for $5 easy fix. You need to remove the tensioner to get to it but its very easy and very common.

I think it's called a coolant bypass tube. Attached is a Youtube video about this common Camaro issue. If this happens to me again, then I'm swiching to a Mustang

you must really like fixing stuff then!

make sure you do both elbows while you are in there! if one went, the other is probably pretty close.

Default tube size?

is there a certain size? my advanced auto couldn't find it in the computer. I can't tear it down and bring it up there because it's my only car at the moment.
