I just tried to do an oil change on my 2000 SS and I couldn't find the oil drain plug. I found the oil filter and two what looked to be plugs behind a metal shield with 4 drilled holes where the bolts were. Am I looking in the right place if so does that metal shield come off.

the drain plug is in the bottom of the oil pan, you can't miss it, look again.

Yeah but there is some type of metal shield in front of it and it looks like the drain plug is recessed about 4in behind it. I know,I feel really stupid for asking this kind of question but I can't seem to find it. I'll see if I can take a picture of it maybe that might help.

It's not behind any shield and it's not recessed at all. It's on the side of the oil pan near the middle.

Ok so laying underneath the car you see the oil filter on the left of drain pan so in reference to that where would it be? I know this sounds really bad but this is my first V8 I've been into jap cars for the last 6 years this is definetely a first for me not finding the drain plug. The weird thing is I found the plug and I swear its behind a shield. Apparently after talking to a couple of guys at work, they said they had similar issues where there was a shield that needed to be removed it was used to block debris from smacking against the drain pan. I was under the car yesterday for a half an hour and all I could find was a plug behind this shield. I'm gonna try it again and if I still can't find it I'll take a picture of what I'm talking about.

The plug behind the metal shield is your transfer case..Oh, wait you have a Camaro..Just use a screw driver and a hammer and punch a hole in the pan to get the oil out..Or just put your hand on the oil pan and start at the top and slide your hand down till you feel a bump, that bump is either a dead squirrel or your drain plug. Oh about the screw driver and hammer thing, if you do that, you should be shot..

Where did you get that photo? Do you have the dealers manual by any chance? I got the one for my old Eclipse online for free but I can't find one for the SS.
