Several people have suggested using Simple Green to clean the engine bay and the underside of their car. So, I was doing some research and while looking into the Simple Green products I have noticed they have a plethora! I just recently had my car fully detailed so I won’t need to clean the engine anytime soon (as I am storing her away for the winter), but I would like to have some on hand to clean the engine/engine bay once a year. In addition to cleaning the engine/engine bay, I want to clean the underneath of my car (to remove the rust) within the next few weeks.


As I mentioned earlier, Simple Green has a plethora of products and I’m not sure which one I should buy. Which one is most commonly used to clean cars?


Product 1: Simple Green Concentrated Cleaner
Product 2: Crystal Simple Green Industrial Cleaner/Degreaser
Product 3: Extreme Simple Green
Product 4: Foaming Crystal Simple Green
Product List: Simple Green Family of Industrial Products

 

I would guess Product 1, but with any cleaner, a rinse will be needed and air drying also preventing puddling?

 

I don't use simple green. For under the car to prevent rust, I used a water based degreaser called Krud Kutter which works great, and then I painted a product called "Rust Doctor" underneath the chasis. Keeps rust away permanently.

 

I keep it simple.. I just use purple power degreaser, plus it does great on siding etc. I get a good laugh out of that other expensive crap.

 

I use to be able to get the stuff used for cleaning the bilges of large ships. That cut through the crap nicely, of coarse they quit making that particular product. The Government said it was to dangerous, causing a lot of cancer.

 

I just get mine at home depot. Rust doctor requires a water based degreaser. So I use Krud Kutter. I don't know if Simple Green is water based or not. Only because I was coating the underneath. If I was just gonna get a cheap spray bottle cleaner, Simple Green would probably do the trick. Krud Kutter is cheap at the home depot.

 

Simple Green and assortment of rags and bristle brushes are what I have always used on grungy parts... Always had good luck. Heres a few pics of different cars of mine that I used S.G. on and Mothers Metal Polish as well.

I "had" one for 2 years. I sold it in 2009. 1992 car # 091 out of 502 for that year. I miss that one for sure. I had it set up pretty nice, Stainless Works full exhaust, Haibeck chip, Samco hoses, Chrome GM ZR-1 A Molds, blah, blah, blah... About 390 to the wheels.... Very fun car.

 

Cool, I'll bet it was fun. I have a 92 convertible, but with the lowly LT1.
