Usually it replaces the main chip in the ECM. I have seen some tho that ride on top kinda piggy back style. YOur EPROM should be a removable chip in the ECM.

that is the prom, the memcal you got requires either soldering or a memcal adapter like this http://www.moates.net/g1-memory-adap....html?cPath=64, heres what i got from solomon.

You have two options for installing the new chip that I will be sending you:

1) Buy a piggyback adapter that will let you install it without doing any soldering of your stock PCM. For TPI/LT1, you may buy the "G1" from Moates for $35 plus shipping at: http://www.moates.net/product_info.p...products_id=32 - for TBI engines, you will need the "G2" for $30 at: http://www.moates.net/product_info.p...products_id=36 - this socket requires soldering, which you can do yourself (http://www.moates.net/documentation....entation_id=10), or let Moates do it for $25 (http://www.moates.net/product_info.p...products_id=71).

2) For TPI/LT1, you may unsolder your stock chip from the stock PCM MEMCAL, and solder in my new one (required for TBI). This requires some soldering skills, but saves you the $35. If you feel you will ever need a retune in the future, the above option may be better in the long-term.

Obviously, you accept the risks of installation with either option above. For a helpful description of installation, tailored to the G1 module but still helpful for finding locations when soldering, visit Moates' HOWTO at: http://www.moates.net/documentation....mentation_id=9

when you get ready to put it in make sure it goes in the right direction. i toasted a memcal chip getting it in backwards. also be carefull when plugging it into the g1 the pins bend farely easily. your prom has one tooth on one side in the middle and two on the other side on the ends so it will only go in one way, look at how it sets in there and what side the memcal is on. the g1 does not have those teeth. so be sure to keep the memcals on that side. the memcal from solomon will have the same notch on one end that the memcal that was in the car. make sure thay are pointing the same way.
