Default checked out my distributor

I've been having ahard starting problem with my94z soI pulled my water pump off to get a good look at the opti and it has a considerable amount of oil and oily sludgeall over the top of it. How much does it take to ruin an opti?
It isnt leaking out of the intake... it looks like it could be coming out of the water pump drive seal. And the coupling that couples the pump to the drive has a lot of oil in it so it could be making like a trough and dumping oil on top of the opti.
I checkedthe a/c voltage on the B pin of the ICMplug and the distributor is sending a signal of 1.8v-2.0v a/c but it kinda climbs up. Its getting battery voltage at theA andD pin and it is a new control moduleso it rules that out. The coil is newand is getting 12v. Getting good fuel pressure. I have wiggled every wire that i could see under the hood to see if it made a difference while it was running.
Is it possible that that small amount of oil has ruined the opti?
Looks like im gonna have to take off the front cover and change the seal on the water pump drive or can i change it still installed? Because if i take that off i will have to change the oil pan gasket.

Iguess that is what im gonna do then. I think i am going to go back in with a regular gm opti. seems the higher dollar MSD unit is just as likely to fail if leaked on and im not going to turn my motor 10,000 rpm anyway LOL.
I looked at the opti delete from Delteq. Does that still use the electronic part of the opti that is prone to failure? Would be cool to get rid of the opti but i really cant afford $700.

yeah. my water pump itself wasnt leaking but i think the oil seal around the drive is leaking and leaking oil on top of the opti. Im gonna go ahead and put a new waterpump on it anyway and new seals and gasket in the front cover and a new oil pan gasket because the front of the oil pan aready has a little bit of a leak and taking the front cover off will most likely make it worse. Gonna be a PITA but it has to be done.
