Default Charging issue

I have a 1994 Lt1 camaro. My problem is my battery wont hold a charge. Its a new battery, and the old one did the same thing. I recently rebuilt the motor, and I could have forgot a ground or something... the alt gauge reads 13-14 volts.I disconnected the battery, while the engine was runningand it stays running. If I charge the battery, with a battery charger, it will start fine, butit drains as I am driving it, but not enough to die while running...but enough so it wont start again if its longer then a few miles I drive it.The battery has like 880 cranking amps. I am a little confused here. I have two wires that go to the starter right now, and another little black one thats down there I assume thats a ground... or does that one go to the starter as well? I got a ground on the back of the alternator, the black battery cable has a ground, there is a big red wire I have grounded, and that little wire to the starter... what else for the charging system? I have seen those diagrams, but they kinda confuse me, Im knew to this, and I would rather be told. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Default RE: Charging issue

When you checked the alternator voltge was all the elctrical stuff turned on, lights, AC, wipers, rear window heater, etc. ? I suspect you have a bad diode in your alternator and the alternator can't produce enough amperage to run the load.
