Cd/raido
The cd/raido in my 95 Z28 was going out and sometime before I had pickup a 96 firebird cd/radio for about 10 to 15$ at a thrift store. I replaced the Z28 cd/radio with the Pontiac cd/radio model but I had to remove the metal mounts by moving them back and forth to work harden then crack off. Then using a Dremel tool I ground down the rt. side metal mount so it would fit on to the Pontiac cd/radio and the top 2 small face plate mounts. I also wore safety glasses!
The Z28 cd/radio dashboard cover fits with just a little bit of adjustment without grinding.

Most GM cd/radios are very good. So I only changed the 1way speakers in the car with 2way speakers. This newer cd/radio has more power the the old one. Even on my 81 Trans-Am I replaced the speakers out of a wrecked
Buick with the Bose speakers that came in the car, 15$ each. Sounds very good on the cheep.

My only question is why didn't you upgrade to a modern radio. I have a '98 and I got tired of not having a CD player. I upgraded mine to a CD/Component/USB radio and I had to do mush of the same things you had to do. Cut the inside of the dash to make it fit.
I'm not saying you were wrong to change out your radio, but I love USB flash drives. They hold a lot more music than a CD and they are easier to change out.
