I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say it's not a catback...mostly because of what the guy who posted the video on YouTube said..."1999 V6 Camaro Exhaust. Flowmaster 80 series muffler. Everything else is bonestock".

for my Z, the Magnaflow has 3 inch tubing all the way so it went from the 3 inch Y pipe off of the headers to a 3 inch system. The fact that magnaflow is also stainless mean it will last for quite a while.

Now, it seems like you are dancing around a question such as; can I just replace a muffler instead of spending the $$$ for a cat back system? The answer is yes of course. I don't know what size tubing your sixer has but it's probably not that restricitve vs the 8's.
