That sounds more like a transmission fault than an engine fault. If it was an engine problem, it would just stall without jerking your car.

I don't know about the camaro, but based on my experience with other cars, the transmission could just be stuck in higher gear. The torque convertor changes characteristic depending on which gear you are in.

Does it do the same thing if you change into second instead of drive?
