Default Car doesn't start sometimes

It is a 2000 v6. sometimes it starts right up and runs perfect and other times it cranks but won't start. I changed the spark plugs but other than running a little smoother there is no difference with the starting issue. I am thinking the fuel filter and will replace it today, but are there any other things it could be?

There are many things it could be. For a motor to just not start it has to be missing something. Compression, Fuel, Air or Spark. Step one in a on a no start is to figure out what is missing. Since the car starts sometimes and runs OK once it starts we can kind of rule out Compression and Air since most of the time when they stop they do not come back. So now your down to Fuel or Spark. You need to do a Fuel pressure test and a spark test when the car is not starting.

Fuel pressure testers and spark tests are available at most parts stores, Sears, Harbor freight. They can be bought cheap at Harbor freight and some parts store have a Loan a tool program.

I would guess about 70% of the time with these car you condition is cause by a failing fuel pump.

I found out that it is the fuel pump. I have a friend that is going to do the work all i have to do is buy the pump. Any suggestions on a good pump. preferably something I can buy locally. I want to get the car back on the road as qiuck as possible. I live in St. Pete, Fl.
